Tips for Painting Rocks
Choose the Right Rocks
Look for smooth, flat rocks as they provide the best surface for painting. River rocks are ideal because of their naturally smooth surface. Avoid surfaces with too many crevices or bumps.

Clean the Rocks
Before painting, wash with soapy water and let them dry completely. This removes dirt and grime, ensuring the paint adheres well to the surface.

Prime Your Surface
Applying a primer or a base coat of white acrylic paint can make your colors pop and improve durability. It creates a non-porous surface that allows the paint to stick better.

Use the Right Paint
Acrylic paint is the best choice for rock painting because it’s waterproof, dries quickly, and comes in vibrant colors. For a glossy finish, you can use acrylic paint markers or add a sealant after painting.

Experiment with Tools
Apart from brushes, explore using sponges, toothpicks, and stencils to create different textures and designs. Dotting tools can be particularly useful for creating precise dot patterns.

Seal Your Rocks
To protect your artwork, especially if the rocks will be kept outdoors, apply a clear sealant. This helps prevent weather damage and keeps the colors vibrant.

Like any art form, rock painting improves with practice. Be patient with yourself as you learn and experiment with different techniques.
